Nutmeg books

Voting for the 2009 Teen Nutmeg Book Award will take place in January. This holiday vacation is a great time to read one or more of the Nutmeg nominees before voting takes place. elsewhere is one of the nominees. It is written by Gabrielle Zevin and describes an interesting afterlife where people and animals age backwards until they are reborn again. Take a look at all the Nutmeg nominees at http://www.ewml.org/teennutmeg.htm. If you"ve read elsewhere or any of the other Nutmeg nominees tell us what you thought of it. Look for voting ballots at the library sometime in January

I just finished reading another Nutmeg nominee "Dairy Queen" by Catherine Gilbert Murdock. It gives a nice picture of what it's liked living in a rural area. It's interesting because the main character, D.J. faces a few different issues over the course of one summer. In the end she winds up trying out for the high school football team. Is this realistic? Does anyone know of any high school football teams that are coed? Let us know.

I read "Elsewhere", which was kind of an interesting concept, but I didn't really like it. It was weird. But not not good weird - kind of lame weird. But maybe that's just my taste, I don't know.
